Altrusa International of Richardson, Inc. hosted a reception earlier today at Richardson Woman’s Club Founders Hall to honor local female medical, nonprofit and public safety staff who served the community during the pandemic. In addition, Pro Tem Mayor Janet Depuy received a ceremonial check for $ 120,067.78, representing the volunteer hours invested in the city by the organization over the past year.

The 17 winners of the “Outstanding Women of Today: 2021 Unsung Heroes Reception” included three first responders from the town of Richardson:

  • Richardson Fire Department firefighter Avery Atkins;
  • Lauren Parent, firefighter with the Richardson Fire Department; and
  • Sherry Cal Buford, Public Safety Telecommunications Supervisor with the Richardson Police Department.

Richardson’s Altrusa International, Inc. provides support to many agencies, including the Richardson Public Library, Animal Shelter, RISD, and the Community Ministries Network. It also helps make the Richardson Reads One Book event possible.
