Fox News correspondent Gillian Turner told Conservative Network viewers on Monday that although Kyle Rittenhouse has been acquitted of the murder, he is “not a hero.” Plus, she noted, there is “no victory lap for Kyle or anyone else to take.”
After Rittenhouse’s acquittal last week, right-wing media figures and MAGA politicians pounced on each other to congratulate the 18-year-old who shot dead two protesters in Kenosha, Wisc., In the summer latest. At least three pro-Trump congressmen have offered Rittenhouse an internship in Congress while conservative pundits have elevated the teenager to a right-wing icon.
Fox News star Tucker Carlson revealed after the verdict that he had an on-board team at Rittenhouse throughout the trial, filming an upcoming documentary for Fox’s streaming service. The Fox host also marked the first post-trial interview with Rittenhouse, which airs Monday night. The Carlson executive producer claimed no payment had been made to Rittenhouse or his family for the access, although the young man’s lawyer suggested otherwise.
Despite all of this, Turner appeared on Monday to warn his Fox colleagues and audiences that Rittenhouse shouldn’t be glorified.
While discussing whether Rittenhouse had a libel case against Democrats and the media, Turner first disputed some of the media coverage of the murder case. “Two of the most persistent and incorrect facts that created this media landscape are the fact that he crossed state borders with the gun, which he did not do,” he said. she declared. “Also, that he shot black men, which he didn’t.” (Although some international news agencies have erroneously reported that Rittenhouse’s victims were black, it does not appear that all the major American media made this mistake.)
“That said, this case is particularly tragic as Kyle may have been acquitted, but he’s not a hero here,” Turner continued. “There are no heroes and there are no winners. There is no victory lap for Kyle or anyone else to take.
She went on to say that America is currently on a “razor’s edge” lamenting that “everything is flammable and could take pear shape in an instant.”
Turner then said she would leave it to the rest of the panel to “decide whether they feel” President Joe Biden’s comments following the verdict “are hurting or helping” the situation. Claiming that “the jury system works,” Biden added that he was angry with Rittenhouse’s acquittal.
