Marvel’s Dark Ages Multiverse Event Just Killed An Iconic MCU Hero

WARNING: Spoilers for Dark Ages #4 follow. One of the founding fathers of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has just been brutally murdered in the pages of dark times #4. The event of the miniseries takes place in an alternate universe of the main Marvel 616 universe, taking advantage of the growing multiverse that has spread through the company’s comic books, TV shows, and movies. In dark times, the Marvel Universe lost power, forcing society to adapt over the next seven years. Part of that adaptation came from transforming an old SHIELD Helicarrier into a seagoing vessel, with Nick Fury as the admiral.

the dark times Creative Team #4 of VC’s Tom Taylor, Iban Coello, Brian Reber and Joe Sabino gave Nick Fury an untimely end, which came as the heroes embarked on a rescue mission to rescue Tony Stark and others captured heroes of Apocalypse in Europe. Powered by the X-Man Storm’s mutant abilities to control the winds, the Helicarrier set sail with Fury, Storm, Nightcrawler, Iceman, Colossus, Spider-Man (Peter Parker), Invisible Woman (Sue Storm), Wolverine ( Laura Kinney), her clone Gabby, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Pepper Potts, Moon Girl, Devil Dinosaur, Blade and Doctor Doom on board. They had almost arrived at their destination, but once they were 10 miles away they found themselves attacked by a revamped group of Ghost Riders.

Now dubbed Ghost Raiders, these pirates made a deal with the devil after the world went dark. Now they roam the seas seeking to drag new victims to death, drowning them and burning them alive at the same time. Nick Fury is the unlucky recipient of their opening attack, leading to epic fight sequences from Coello, Reber and Sabino. Colossus, Wolverine, and Gabby offer two fastball specials, and we meet the Harbor Guardians: Scott Lang and Fin Fang Foom, who quickly get rid of Ghost Raiders. The victory is short-lived, however, as Nightcrawler teleports to the Ghost Raiders’ ship and brings Nick Fury’s body back to their ship. The final image is of Nightcrawler, Wolverine, and Gabby crouched next to Fury’s lifeless body.

Samuel L. Jackson plays Nick Fury in the MCU. His appearance on the post-credits scene of the 2008s Iron Man helped launch the MCU’s decade-plus dominance at the box office. Fury is set to be one of the main stars of the Disney+ adaptation of the Secret Invasion story arc which features Skrulls secretly infiltrating all layers of humanity, from governments to superhero teams.

dark times left a host of corpses in its wake. Avengers’ Vision and Scarlet Witch were two of the first heroes to fall in their battle against the Unmaker, responsible for the world’s lack of electricity. Others who died include Doctor Strange and the Human Torch. Each issue killed off at least one hero, and readers should expect to see even more as the miniseries continues.
