Tecno Camon 12 phone review

When the Tecno Camon series of phones hit the Kenyan market a few years ago, it became very popular with women. This is probably due to the fact that the Tecno Camon C9 comes with an app that can add makeup like lipstick, foundation on their photos. Over time, the Camon series has managed to carve out a niche in a highly competitive market. I had the chance to try the Tecno Camon 12 and here are my thoughts;

The Tecno Camon 12 comes with smooth edges which make it easy to handle. The dark jade color on the unit I have gives it a cool and premium look. It has a 6.5 inch LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors. The point is, when it comes to consuming media like videos, the bigger the screen, the greater the fun, as such, you can’t go wrong with this phone. The screen is HD with 720 × 1600 pixels giving you good images.

The phones come with a 16 MP front camera, if you like selfies, the front camera will make you love this phone. Besides the 16 MP camera, the phone also incorporates artificial intelligence technology to make your selfie more vivid and flawless.

The phones have a triple camera on the back and a 16-megapixel main sensor with an f / 1.8 aperture, an 8 MP ultra-wide lens with a 120-degree field of view and a 2 MP depth sensor rear camera. He takes some pretty decent photos, check them out below;

Fingerprint detector

Fingerprint sensors have made unlocking phones a lot easier, the Camon’s sensor is located on the back of the phone. It can register up to five fingerprints and it is fast and accurate.

Facial recognition

Artificial intelligence technology allows users to unlock their phones using facial recognition. To do this, the phone scans the 296 unique recognition points of their faces, improving accuracy. It’s pretty quick and neat.

The sound on the Camon 12 isn’t too impressive but it’s something you can work with. The speakers are conveniently located at the bottom so you can listen to your music regardless of how you place the phone.

The phone comes with 4GB RAM, 64GB ROM and is powered by MediaTek Helio P22 processor, 2.0GHz Cortex-A53 processor and PowerVR GE8320. It also comes with an Android 9.0 operating system. All of these features combined make the phone fast and I haven’t experienced a lag when multitasking on the phone yet.

The phone comes with a non-removable 4000mAh battery. A large battery means you can use the phone for long periods of time without having to charge it. A full battery took me a day and a half with fairly heavy use.

However, the downside is that it doesn’t have a fast charge option and you have to wait two hours for it to fully charge.

The phone comes with 64 GB internal memory which can be expanded using a Micro SD up to 256 GB.

When the Camon series first landed in this market the selling point was the camera, on the other hand the Tecno Camon 12 does not disappoint in this regard. Also, for the price of Ksh. 15,499 this is a definitive purchase.
