The magazine Tecno Camon 15; Great phone with great battery life

A phone battery, in my opinion, is one of the most important parts of a smartphone. This prompted customers to seek out a phone capable of delivering the best battery life possible. Basically, the longer a battery lasts, especially in these days when a phone does multiple functions, the better. I mean who wants to have a phone that you top up every few hours !!

As such, a phone battery that can last all day under heavy use is a definite plus for those who are heavy users. The Tecno Camon 15 5000mAh battery does not disappoint on this aspect, here are my thoughts;

With moderate use I was able to get 72 hours on this phone without having to recharge. This was the case with the use of voice calls and social media apps like Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and Whatsapp.

During heavy use which included games, Zoom, TikTok, and high call turnover, I was able to get 36 hours which I was able to push to 2 days using the battery saver option when level of the battery reached 20%.

Battery Saver conserves battery power by disabling various services that are running in the background. These services really drain the battery and when they turn off the battery savings are incredible. To activate it, just go to the quick settings menu at the top or to the battery lab in the settings.

I have to say, I fell in love with the battery life of this phone because my previous phone couldn’t go a day without needing to be recharged. It even got to the point where I had to walk around with a power bank, which is often tedious.

However, the only downside is that the phone doesn’t have a fast charge option, which means you have to wait around 2.5 hours for it to finish charging. The best bet even more if you are a busy person is to leave it charging overnight. The folks at Tecno seem to have thought about this aspect because the phone automatically shuts off the charging function when the battery is full, which means you don’t have to worry about the battery getting damaged due to overcharging. .

The Tecno Camon 15 comes with smooth edges which make it easy to handle. The back cover is interesting in that it features lines that provide a secure grip while still holding the phone in place ensuring that it doesn’t accidentally slip off.

The Camon 15 comes with a 6.6 inch FHD LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors. The screen is an improvement over the Tecno Camon 12 which rocked a 6.5-inch screen. A bigger screen means that consuming media say on Youtube, Instagram, Twitter or games is that much more enjoyable. The screen is HD with 720 × 1600 pixels giving you good images.

Unlike its predecessor, the Camon 15 does not have a dewdrop notch but rather a hole punch on the left for the selfie camera. It has a slim top bezel that also houses the LED notification light, flash, and sensors for face unlock as well as proximity and vibe.

The Tecno Camon series has been a camera-focused phone since its inception and in this regard the Camon 15 does not disappoint. It comes with a quad camera setup on the back which consists of a 48MP main camera, 2MP ultra-wide and 2MP and QVGA depth sensors.

The camera took good photos during that day and even in low light conditions at night thanks to the Taivos technology. Check out some of the photos I took with it;

Fingerprint detector

Fingerprint sensors have made unlocking phones much easier, the Camon 15 sensor is located on the back of the phone. It can register up to five fingerprints and it is fast and accurate.

The sound on the Camon 15 isn’t actually bad and it’s something you can work with. The speakers are conveniently located at the bottom so you can listen to your music regardless of how you place the phone.

The phone comes with 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of internal storage and is powered by a MediaTek Helio P22 processor with a PowerVR GE8320 GPU. It also comes with the Android 10 Pie operating system. The phone handles everyday activities like streaming, heavy social media consumption, or just listening to music quite well and I actually didn’t have any lag issues even when I was multitasking.

The phone comes with 64 GB internal memory which can be expanded using a Micro SD. The internal memory should be sufficient, but the possibility of expanding the memory is always welcome.

I have to say that I enjoyed the use of this phone, especially the battery life, not to mention the camera. As such, I would definitely recommend buying this phone, also the price of Ksh. 17,999 is affordable.
