According to some Fortnite players, the Battle Royale game is based on real events. This is extremely unlikely given that the game revolves around a huge storm that engulfs people and kills them if they stay there too long. Not to mention that there have been countless Battle Royales before Fortnite.
Epic Games’ Battle Royale game is not based on actual events, but it draws inspiration from other sources. Unfortunately, nowadays people believe almost anything. Many dubious rumors regarding what the game might be based on have appeared over the years and in Fortnite in particular.
Some players suspect that at least a few of these stories are accurate based on these stories. Also, because there’s no context behind it, some just claim it’s based on story as fact.
A Twitter user got a lot of attention with a now-deleted tweet. They claimed that 100 people were deported to an isolated island in 1886. They should have killed each other until only one person was left, and the last one standing won a metal umbrella. Of course, this corresponds to the umbrellas awarded to those who complete their 1st Victory Royale of the season. Even though it was total nonsense, some people thought it was real.
After moving from the hit shooter title Gears of War, Epic Games was able to capitalize on the Battle Royale genre. With the growing popularity of PUBG, it was inevitable that they would try to usurp the BR crown.
Fortnite isn’t the first battle royale game, nor the endgame, but it seems to have mastered the formula.
